A Long Time Ago, In A Galaxy Far Far From Kosher

What if I could combine two of my favourite things in the world, Star Wars and bacon?

"The Bacon AT-AT stands 3 ft tall and is made with over 40 lbs of bacon. The body was made from foam, then the bacon was attached. This beast took 21 non-stop hours to build. If you've ever once thought to cook 40 lbs of bacon in your kitchen in one sitting, I can now personally advise against it."

I know, where do I go from here, right? How about Ewoks and Care Bears?

A few days ago Connor is in the bathroom peeing when his little brother decides to join him. Once Liam started Connor yells out, "Don't cross the streams!" My kids are that awesome.

Did you miss the reference? If so, maybe this tshirt from Think Geek will help.

Update: I am officially changing Supreme Leader's name to Darth Enabler. Her and her incubating Sith apprentice are slowing pushing me to the fatty side of the Force with their cravings for all that is delicious and good. I'm just trying to be supportive.

Can I ground my kids for eating all my Girl Guide cookies?

Finally, I saw this on kottke last weekend and damn near peed myself with glee. Maybe it's a guy thing.

"The centrifuge is a genuinely terrifying device. The lights dim when it is switched on. A strong wind is produced as the centrifuge induces a cyclone in the room. The smell of boiling insulation emanates from the overloaded 25 amp cables. If not perfectly adjusted and lubricated, it will shred the teeth off solid brass gears in under a second. Runs were conducted from the relative safety of the next room while peeking through a crack in the door."

*PS. (because my finally's are never final) My nephew Dakoda's birthday is on July the 4th, and this year my sister decided to take him down to the States so he could enjoy some fireworks. She needs to know where the best place in Seattle would be to watch them and ideally, find a hotel close by. Any Seattle-ites out there with a suggestion?

Bacon AT-AT, Ewoks,

  2. Care Bears vs. Ewoks is awesome!

  3. The geek in me squeed when I saw a lava lamp in a centrifuge. I must send to friends who will appreciate.

  4. That's a lot of bacon. Yummmmm.

  5. i would fight in the freezing hoth weather to get at a bacon At-At...you have the most amazing star wars references...dont give in to the dark side....lol.

  6. Don't cross the streams...dude, you have every right to be proud! *sniff* I think I teared up a little...

BTW, there is a room in the basement of my new house that is big enough to build a centrifuge like that...hehheh

  7. That poor lava lamp is probably in dire need of some Pepto-Bismol right now.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I have a sudden craving for a bacon wrapped Harrison Ford.

  9. Bacon At-At? The things people come up with never cease to amaze me. The question I would ask is "why?" but I'm certain the answer would be "why not?"
Also, you have reinforced my belief that men blame women for everything. It is clearly NOT SL's fault you are gaining weight. I would refer you to your fascination with the bacon At-At for my proof.

  10. PS. My uncle's birthday is July 4th and he said when he was a kid he always thought he was special because of all his siblings (there were 7 of them) he's the only one who got a parade and fireworks on his birthday. He says he was about 8 before he figured out it wasn't just about him. :)

  11. That centrifuge is awesome but I particularly loved the music that they chose to go with it.

Seattle fireworks? hmmmm....I'm going to say either the park that is right next to the Pike's Place Market or the one in West Seattle. I'll get the names an email them to you. My advice get there at 9am with lawn chairs because she won't find parking or a place to sit. Why doesn't she just go to Bellingham? If I remember right they put on a right nice display.

  12. 01. That's fedinitely not just a guy thing, I love the video. And I love it when people do stuff like that at home! :D

    02. *squeal* Your boys are true fanboys and officially awesome!

    03. Maybe she should take him to Dakota, would be a little more authentic... ;)

  13. Don't cross the streams! Your kids are awesome!

I was disappointed the lamp didn't explode. Music was cool though.

Ever try bacon chocolate? My daughter says it's to die for!

  14. I'm about to vomit from the bacon. Just thinking about that much makes me ill.

Care Bears all the way, even though I love Ewoks. Care Bears will nice you to death.

You can't keep a good lava lamp down. I guarantee the person who came up with that is single.

    ReplyDelete
  15. That is cool! Of all the colours for the lava though. ICK!

Seattle? I'll point someone else over here. She might know.

  16. Re: the bacon AT-AT... I really have no words.

Re: "don't cross the streams!"... that is pure awesomeness!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I also had to pass this link on to my kids, too good to keep to myself. The music was great with the centrifuge, and I agree that person has to be single- I was waiting for the lava lamp to go flying through the nice windows.

All in all, an awesome collection of randomness today!

  18. Yup, I'm still back at the bacon. Do you think at at taste like bacon?

I aspire to raise boys as cool as your kids. Time to start letting them watch movies that are questionable for their age.

    ReplyDelete
  19. You don't often see that kind of behavior in a major appliance.

Darth Enabler *snicker* You could post belly pictures of BOTH of you. Do they make paternity clothes?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Atlanta is a better place for fireworks. Rednecks do 'splodey things better than hippies.

    ReplyDelete
  21. "don't cross the streams" -- you owe me a mouthful of coffee and a new keyboard :-)

    ReplyDelete
  22. That was great! The guy who made the lava lamp video has waaaay too much time on his hands..just sayin :) Happy early Bday to your nephew. I'm on the east coast...wrong side to help :(

    ReplyDelete
  23. As soon as I saw the title to this post, I had a mini anxiety attack. You have that effect on me.

I adore your kids... they're so effing adorable (even if they're talking about peeing)! And I really like the wife's new name... but maybe you could combine old and new and call her Supreme Darth? Just a thought...

    ReplyDelete
  24. I love me some bacon!

The fatty side of the force eh? Sounds nummy.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Bacon, Ewok stabbing a Care Bear ... this post was awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Fireworks are one of my favorite things in the whole world! :) It isn't Seattle, but for a mere 3 hours of driving from Seattle, or a quick drive from PDX (the Portland airport), you can experience fireworks like no other.

Oh, and Neil Diamond always, always, accompanies the show. You can't beat that!!! If she decides to go this route - let me know....there are tricks to avoiding the masses.

Oh, and crossing streams!?! Your kids ARE awesome!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. everything is better with bacon;)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I would eat that bacon, I don't care how long it took me.

You're supposed to stash the Girl Scout cookies so the kids don't find them...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Your kids really are awesome. And that is a lot of bacon.

    ReplyDelete
  30. 1. I worry that this is a waste of perfectly good bacon.
    2. Ewoks.
    3. My son and his best friend like to pee together and pretend that the streams are...you guessed it...light sabers.
    4. I am absolutely not showing this centrifuge video to my son. He's all about the elaborate science experiment. So far, it's just building rockets and volcanos. I fear that centrifuge is in my future.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Is there really anyone who does not get the "cross the streams" reference? Really?

    Centrefuges are cool.

    ReplyDelete
  32. from a friend....

take a look at this! I just Googled "seattle fourth of july fireworks"
and this was thie firsts item to pop up. Pretty timely, too, printed

  33. yes, i am thinking eating all the Girl Scout cookies justifies a grounding. lol However, what my boys would do is eat all but one, that way they could say, "I didn't eat them all!" Love your post!

    Have a great week!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think the Space Needle still does fireworks.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm hungry enough to eat 40 pounds of bacon..the foam too, 'cause it probably tastes like bacon.

Calling your baby mama Darth Enabler $100 USD! Comparing the baby to a Sith- priceless!

I LOVE lava lamps. I have three in my office. I want a centrifuge!

    Happy Tuesday!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Care Bears are just evil, so it's only right that the Ewoks kill them all.

Love the lava lamp thing! Totally kewl. I wonder if you feed the lava lamp the bacon AT-AT first if it will hurl righteously?

Where are the Star Wars zombies? Did I miss something? Am I going to have to draw one of those too? :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm not sure if that's delicious or disgusting... Guess I'll have to taste it and find out.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Awesome kids are a truly wondrous thing. And having them be awesome about something you especially love...priceless.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I highly doubt the foam innards will stop people from licking that bacon At-At. Then it will become an Ate-Ate.

    ReplyDelete
  40. The power of bacon...

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'll tell you, I barely understood a word you said but I enjoyed it anyway. You're just very weird.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Wait, it's the 40 pounds of bacon he advises against but not the 21 straight hours of building?
Meh. What do I know? I'm a vegetarian.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yikes, I read recently that there will be no fireworks in Seattle on the 4th. Nobody will pick up the tab. Maybe that will change, but i would keep an eye on the local news here before planning any trips.

    ReplyDelete
  44. 40lbs of bacon...ewoks and care bears...is it really any wonder why I feel so at home here?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Plenty of ireworks down here in Texas, but who'd want tocome this far? Not me.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Bacon in any form is a work of art. Bacon is king. And I TOTALLY got the "don't cross the streams things" mainly beacuse I am both a geek AND a child of the 80's. And Ewoks kick ass. Always.

    ReplyDelete
  47. what happened to the bacon after the photo shoot? my dogs would so have torn into that ewok. Even the styrofoam parts.

Not sure about the level of effort expended on the lava lamp centrifuge experiment. Hmmm. You're right, it must be a guy thing.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I would probably eat right through that bacon and the cardboard in about 3.2 seconds. Yum.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Ever heard of Bacon infused burbon???

    mmmmmmmm

    ReplyDelete
  50. I don't think I got the reference, but I still enjoyed fun. Why is a hearse chasing the pac man's?

My son could eat 40 pounds of bacon.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Bacon, Star Wars, Pac Man. You are *such* a boy.

  52. When I saw the giant bacon scupture my first thought was 'why?' and my second thought was 'men.'

    ReplyDelete
  53. I've been meaning to come over here for 3 days to comment about bacon and then when I read "don't cross the streams," I snorted bacon out of my nose I laughed so hard.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I am so behind on my blog reading that I'm purposefully not commenting so I have time to read. I KNOW! So selfless to not take credit for all that hard work... Anyway - you kind of have to comment on an AT-AT made of bacon. That is the craziest thing I've ever seen.

    ReplyDelete
  55. 40 lbs of bacon!! Are you kidding me? However the result looks awesome and delicious. The lava lamp vid was too cool...it is a guy thing.

    ReplyDelete
  56. That's a lot of freakn' bacon. Has anyone asked 'why'? That's probably a stupid question. Nevermind.

    ReplyDelete
  57. HA! Your kids are a riot!

I knew with a name like Captain Dumbass, you would not disappoint and I was right. What kind of deliciously random awesomeness have I been missing all these years?!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I hope all of that bacon didn't go to waste... by which I mean, I hope he ate it.

    ReplyDelete
  59. So how long did it take to EAT the At-At ?

    ReplyDelete
  60. I want to see the bacon At-At in the centrifuge

    ReplyDelete
  61. Being two months pregnant and looking at that tower of bacon is making me want to puke. No offense.

    ReplyDelete
  62. That centrifuge is freakin' SCARY. I'm mesmerized by it. and the bacon at-at...shoot, they put foam inside it, how do you spose they cooked it?
