Origin Of The Species

*Oops, I forgot to post Friday's picture theme! Halloween costumes. Send them in! Little kids, big kids, you or someone you don't like. Whatever.

So you're wondering to yourself, self, how did Captain Dumbass get his name? Well Self, let me tell you... wait... you didn't even think twice about it, did you? Did you? Right. You (and by you I mean everyone who reads this who isn't male) just assumed it was a pet name from Supreme Leader. Something I earned just on the basis of being a man. Uh huh. I see you smirking, don't think I can't. Well you're wrong! She has much nastier names for me. I mean nicer.

The truth is I stole it off my brother. You know when you first sign up for your blog you're all excited and just want to get going and then they start asking you all these questions like what you want to call your blog and your ID and yadda yadda yadda and then you spend ALL that time punching in titles that you think would be really cool but turn out to be taken already over and over and over again and then you start getting desperate and punch in any old thing and give up as soon as something is finally accepted so you can GET PAST THIS DAMN PAGE!? Or was that just me? And was that a real sentence? Where was I? Oh ya, so Captain Dumbass and my brother.

Want to see what he looks like?

Clean him off and he's not half bad. Because he hasn't approved this post (because I haven't asked him) I'll make up a name for him. Let's call him Erin. His real name sounds exactly like that only it's spelled differently. His lovely wife's name? We'll call her...ycarT. Ya. Complete anonymity.

Where am I going with this, you ask? Well, now that I'm doing this damn NaBloPoMo and I actually have to write a post everyday rather than just blather on about whatever and upload a picture or two, I'm worried about not having anything to write about. As I was sitting in traffic today I started thinking about things I could write about. Explaining 'Captain Dumbass' seemed like a good idea and I could make fun of my brother at the same time. If you can't humiliate your family, what good are they?

My brother and his old boss had a great relationship and they would have a lot of fun at work. He enjoyed sneaking up on her and scaring the bejesus out of her whenever he could. One day, while she was on the phone, he decided to jump into her office and land hard on his feet to make a lot of noise. Great idea in theory. Unfortunately he didn't judge his jumping off point quite so well and instead of leaping into her room, he leapt before he got into the doorway and drove his head into the upper door frame. The scaring part worked great! He collapsed into the door then stumbled around her office clutching his head and bleeding like the proverbial stuck pig. He tried to laugh it off but apparently the blood pouring down his face and all over her office, not to mention actually being able to see his skull kinda' ruined the whole thing. I don't know, I still laugh about it now. Not everybody has a sense of humour.

Anyway, this story had absolutely nothing to do with 'Captain Dumbass', that was just something my brother used to yell at stupid drivers, still, it's a funny story.

Our Blog Doesn't Suck!

And that's official, according to Technorati. Technorati "is the recognized authority on what's happening on the World Live Web, right now," and is "currently tracking 111.3 million blogs." Guess where we rate? That's right, 8, 911, 336! Ok, so there's almost 9 million cooler blogs than ours, but that also means there are over 102 million that are worse. I don't know what to say, I... I need a moment.

And to think I started this blog with the sole purpose of keeping my family up to date on the happenings of our little family. And yes, that's because we suck at calling, but I think you're missing the point here. And really, nobody in my family looks at this anyway. Well, except for mom on occasion. And any family member who'd like to deny this... I'm running a stat counter. I can see where my visitors are coming from. THEY ARE NOT COMING FROM WHERE YOU LIVE. But whatever, it's all good. I know somebody out there likes us, otherwise we'd be back there with those 102, 388, 664 losers.

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens...

...bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens... Today was Liam's first real thunder and lightning storm and as you can see, he was not impressed. He did not buy our explanation that the clouds were arguing over who could make the most rain and he was not impressed with Dad's explanation of hot and cold air masses. The only thing that seemed to make him feel better was hiding out underneath the kitchen table.

Eventually he agreed to move up to the safety of Mom and Dad's bed which was much more comfortable.

It was an exciting weekend for the boys. Nana came to visit and brought cool toys with her. As usual, since Nana was here they both acted like perfect little angels. I'm sure I saw both of them give me a wink at one point, just to let me know that they knew that I knew that it was all back to normal the minute Nana got in her car. And, of course, they delivered. But not until after we brought them to Toy's R Us so we could buy Connor a bicycle with the money Auntie Dizzy gave him for his birthday and to spend the gift cards that Grampa Gordo and Grama Lynn gave them for Christmas. Yes it's been six months since Christmas, but it's not like they know any different. Anyway, they each picked out two presents each which they have been fighting over ever since. And since they still have over half the value of the gift card left, we can do it all over again. Weeee!

Madre de Dios!

Sure it's all smiles and giggles in this shot, but what the image doesn't show you are the tracks of fat alligator tears down Liam's face. The snot on Mommy's sleeve because we didn't have any kleenex. How is it that shopping for a new pair of shoes is more traumatic than getting a needle at the doctor's office? What's the deal with that? The wailing and ululations could be heard across the mall. Probably from the parking lot. And why? Because Daddy changed Liam's pair of size 6 and a half shoes to size six to see how they fit. Not to a different pair of shoes or anything, but the exact same shoe. You'd have thought I'd taken his stuffed frog away and lit it on fire in front of him. He got his 6 1/2's back. Couldn't put him down to put them back on because of the emotional stress we'd put him through so he had to clutch them to his chest instead. Then it all started up again when the sales girl had to take them away to ring them in and remove the security tag. His attachment to these shoes is so deep he insisted on napping with them. He's the gift that keeps on giving.
