Perspective

Bern likes to make fun of me when it comes to the fridge. She says that if I can't see it as soon as I open the door it ceases to exist. Ok, not so far from the truth. I think it also has to do with the way we look at things. When she looks into the fridge, she's literally looking INTO the fridge. She's 5 foot nothing and a half! When I look in the fridge I'm looking down so that stuff in the back, can't see it.

Yesterday she asked me if I could clean the hood vent over the oven. I said sure, I could see it looked pretty grimy and dusty, no problem. So I cleaned it all off and now it's nice and shiny and new looking again. Only problem is she was looking up at the actual intake fans underneath the hood. I can't see those. I was looking at the top of the hood which is over her head. (Not to mention far easier to clean.)

Recipe for Stress Release

What do you do when you've been feeling stressed and harried and haven't had much time to pamper yourself? How to deal with all the aggravations life throws at you? Walk to Railway Avenue, pick a bucketful of blackberries (the scratches and cuts are worth it), combine them with the raspberries in the freezer, the blueberries and apples languishing in the fridge and make pie, acutually 2 pies, that's how.

What to do with the leftover blueberries? Hmmmmm, how about a Blueberry-Lemon Streusel Coffee Cake? Shhhhhh, don't tell Chad, I'm supposed to be napping as I'm working tonight. Yum, the kitchen smells like I'm baking something buttery and fruity.

Out of the oven at last! They look pretty good. Off to catch some z's so I can function at work tonight.

What I made today

I'm feeling quite pleased with myself today. The Spicy Beef Patties (a Canadian Living recipe) I made this morning turned out beautifully. I had to make some adjustments, mainly in the spicing as my family (ahem, husband) does not particularly enjoy spicy food and the quantity of dough, which I find is never quite enough as I make the patties smaller than is specified in the recipe. I hope the kids like them too. The last time I made them, Connor liked them, of course, that was then. They freeze quite well, which is a good thing. The last time the ravenous horde (aka my lovely sisters) descended on us unannounced, they complained because we had nothing to eat. This should appease the bottomless pits that are their appetites.
