Jesus, Darth Vader and Pi

North By Northwest: The Empire Strikes Back.

Is there any movie that can not be made better with the addition of a TIE fighter and light sabers? I think not.

Watching my wife struggle through all the joys of pregnancy makes me so very very happy I was born with a penis. Miracle of childbirth? Ya, you can keep it.

Pi plate.

Get it?

Kashi would be more appealing if it didn't taste like a handful of wood chips and dirt.

Giant Darth Vader balloon head. Just because. I'd tie this to my roof if I could afford it.

Did Jesus ask to get super-sized? Researchers at the Cornell Food and Brand Lab studied fifty-two depictions of The Last Supper painted between 1000 AD and 2000 AD and discovered that:
"portion sizes of main courses (usually eel, lamb and pork) depicted in the paintings grew by 69 percent over time, while plate size grew by 66 percent and bread size grew by 23 percent."

And sticking with religious art, have you ever seen the Sistine Chapel? Click on this. No, seriously. Do it. Ok, if you don't do it now, come back later and do it. And be patient if if takes a moment or two to load, just think how long it took to paint.

Ok, that's all I got. For more Random Tuesday foolishness, click on the purple button.

  1. That Vader balloon is simply incredible. I want it. Hey, I have an idea. Fancy nicking it for a weekend and going for a joy ride?

  2. The pi plate is awesome. And if you and the pp nick the Darth Vader balloon, please, oh please, oh please let me know so I can join you. If I'm ever going to be arrested for anything, I want it to be for stealing a DV balloon and going for a joy ride. How cool of a rap sheet would that be?
BW, thanks for recommending the Book Thief a while back. I talked my book club into reading it by telling them a highly respected blogger I knew (I even said it with a straight face) said it was a great read. They agreed to reading it and we all loved it. Yay for reading!

  3. You should have said it takes more like 5 minutes to load! But that was amazing! I don't think I have ever seen the whole thing, or ever realized how big it is.

You and Darth, man... you worry me. Especially with another baby coming! If I come into money, I'll buy you that balloon for your house.

  7. Hey! It's the Big Giant Head! I want one! Wait, I already have one...except it doesn't look like Darth Vader...and its attached to my neck...

The plate reminds me of an old math nerd joke:

    Pi r squared?
    No! Pi are round!
    CORNBREAD r squared!

    (harharsnort) what?

    Happy Day Captain.

  12. I love the pi plate (I even got it on the first try today).

  13. Are you by any chance considering the name "Chewbacca" for your next child? Because that would be awesome. Then again, he/she would also probably get their ass kicked everyday for all of high school.

  14. A ride in the DV balloon over the Vatican - now that would be awesome!

Great link - check out how relatively small the creation of man painting is...

  15. Pregnancy and childbirth are in fact a cruel joke perpetrated by The Man.

  16. That Darth Vader thing is awesome :-)

  17. The paintings need to be updated to show Jesus chowing down on an adult happy meal.

  27. Damn, that Sistine Chapel link was uber-cool. And I think I should get cudos for patience, cause it took forever. Is it my computer? Or is the Vatican website just overwhelmed with folks filing suit in the latest sex abuse scandal? I'm sorry, that was just bad.

  33. Bwaahahahaha - pi plate.

I told my son he had to marry my friend's daughter when he gets older. He agreed, provided I bought him a light saber for his birthday.

    Fair trade, I'd say.

  34. The Vader balloon atop your house is one of the greatest images. :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm hopeful that the Darth Vader balloon doubles as a bounce house for those that are so inclined?

On March 14th, every year I order a pizza and make a delicious key lime pie. True story. Lame story too.

  36. Photoshop is serving you well, my young apprentice...

    ReplyDelete
  37. That first picture is fantastic. I want that in a frame on my wall. lol

  38. Been to the Sistine Chapel (when I was younger and childless), No video can even compare to it in person. What's even more amazing than the ceiling are the halls leading it. Now, the Vader balloon...I think that may be my next vacation idea.

  39. NxNW the Star Wars version rocks!
Love all your randomness. And speaking of random, I know it's been up there forever, but can I just tell you how much I love your header?
Speaking of more randomness - I left you an award on my blog. 'Cause I'm sneaky like that.

  40. The Kashi will taste a whole lot better if you sprinkle 1/2 cup of brown sugar on top. Speaking of penis' - you brought it up, i just got home from Body Worlds and I couldn't NOT focus on all the penis'. The point of the exhibit was the heart but still.....

The Sistine Chapel IS awesome. So awesome!
    Happy RaNDoM!

  41. The Sistine Chapel was breathtaking, but I had an unreasonable fear when I clicked on it that some crazy porn site was going to come up.

    ReplyDelete
  42. This wouldn't be the first time I spent way too much time playing in the Sistine Chapel.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Imagine if Balloon boy had made off in that Vader Head. Now that would have been awesome.

  51. The Sistine Chapel site is amazing. Saw it in person twice. Once, back in the dark ages (freshman in high school) long before it was cleaned. There was NO one but our tour group. I layed down on the floor and stared at it for as long as they let me. The last time, the place was jammed packed with people. It was still awe inspiring.

  52. P.S. Cary Grant with a Light Saber is genius

    ReplyDelete
  53. Ha, I am a Sailor! Love me long time! I used to live in Italy and the Sistine Chapel... WOW, to see it in person! Impressive!

    ReplyDelete
  56. The last thing I need is some kind of math involved in my dinner plate...also, although I am not a huge starwars fan, I must admit that balloon is kinda cool.

I'm not saying I won't mock you if I see it tied to your car, but it's likely I'd mock you anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Now I want a pi plate. And a Darth Vader hot air balloon. And maybe a penis.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I first read that his pant size increased, not his plate size. Go Jesus. You badass mofo.

  60. I got a little dizzy on the link to the Sistine chapel, and then I got into it.

I've been spinning around in there for quite a while.

    Quite a while.

  61. If my husband saw that Vader head we'd have a 6th mortgage for sure! Blogger didn't let my comment make it here on Tuesday-do you think there is a convention in town (-:

    ReplyDelete

  65. "Within Sounds of Silence"

In restless dreams I walked alone
    narrow streets of coblestone
neath the halo of a street lamp..

And in the naked light I saw ten thousand people, maybe more,

    people talking without speaking
    people hearing without listening
    people writing songs that voices
never share and no one dared.

    But my words,
    touched the sound of silence.

Whisper´s in the sound of silence...

  69. Today I sent my son to daycare with a Return of the Jedi shirt with a big picture of Yoda on it. So you could probably guess that I liked this post. I can think of numerous movies I have watched with my wife that would definitely be better with light sabers and galactic battle scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Stealing that first picture for some geeks I know that would like it.

It feels kind of weird to do the 3D walk-through of the Sistine Chapel. Like I'm looking at it as if it's a house to buy or something. Wow...quite the dining room.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I have that pie plate. And that is why I weigh so much.

Did that make sense? It did to me...

    ReplyDelete
  72. OK. Kashi cerial does not taste like woodchips and dirt. Maybe like fresh bark and stale bread. Just kidding. I actually love the vanilla flavored wheat squares. Soaked in milk they are scrumptious. You should really give that a try.
