Twitter, Debates & One Sweet Night With Sarah Before She Was Mrs. Palin

Ok, last part of that title? Totally made that up. Wanted to see if anybody was paying attention. Hmm... the librarian thing works, but you know she'd want to talk and then it would be all over.

So how was the debate? Asking that assumes that you're American, which you probably are. I think I have like... 3 Canadian readers and one's my mom. Whatever. I love US politics. It's so much more entertaining then ours. Probably has a lot to do with the bazillions of dollars you guys spend on elections. You have 10 times the population than we do so money's a little tighter up here. On the other hand, we've got like...5 monkeys running for office instead of just two and doesn't that only two bit get boring? Hell, one of our candidates belongs to a party whose sole purpose is to secede their province from the rest of Canada. How's THAT for democracy? Also, it's a lot more fun to watch yours, because at the end of the day, it's YOURS.

What was I getting at? Oh ya, I didn't get to watch the debate because it came on during the middle of dinner time here and since Supreme Leader was working late there was nobody to dump that responsibility on. How could I have said that better? Can you tell that I didn't really have anything to talk about? The great thing about never really writing about anything is that on days when I really have nothing to write about, you can't really tell. Ha haaa...shit. Cat's outta the bag on that one. So... ah, awkward... um?

Wait, no! Now I remember why I started this. Twitter. Good thing I started off with the title, huh? (wait, remember target audience) Good thing I started off with the title, eh? Ooh! And this actually pulls everything together. Seriously, the way my brain works even frightens me. So Twitter. Some of the people I follow on Twitter like to comment on things like, say, the debate. And they comment a lot. A. LOT. So much so that I had to go into my 'following' menu and turn off their 'device updates' option. (If I've lost you because you don't tweet, this is the option that allows comments to be sent to your cell phone) Because I don't live in the US, I am limited to only 250 incoming tweets a month. (Because cell companies in Canada, just like any other country in the world, suck ass and that was the best deal Twitter could get.) So if endless tweeting people take up too many of my messages, I'm cut off that much faster. And then somebody actually sends me a message but I don't get it and they're all like, who does he think HE is? I won't be IGNORED, Alex! (anyone?)

So here we are at the end and you're probably shaking your head because your vision is blurred. Sorry. The ride got a little bumpy because I could hear my oldest upstairs in the middle of this and he sounded like he'd smoked a pack of unfiltered in kindergarten today. I'm thinking this could be a long night. Still friends?

  1. Yes! First! Score. So anyway, I was over at Twitter looking for my very fave Sarah Palin Tweet by Neilochka and couldn't find it. Other than that I have two thoughts on this post. 1) Stephen Harper is almost as much fun to mock as American politicians, 2) I live at LEAST as close to Canada as you do to the US (17 miles), and 3) Did somebody have too much Tim Horton's coffee last night?

  3. I think it would be a whole lot more to watch this election crap from the outside.
On another note, I have Twitter and haven't been on it in months. Should I be detweeted (does that sound dirty??)

  4. I've been watching the Twitter with interest, but the thought of my cell phone going off with all the tweets and twoots and twits barraging my inbox just makes my day more twitterpated than it already is. So, I watch and wait. All my best one liners go to my Facebook status anyway. (That's not saying much.)

  5. Didn't get to watch the debate because of dinner - kinda makes it sound like it was a telemarketer call you ignore so you can eat. You didn't miss much, Paris Hilton's My New Best Friend was waaaaay more entertaining.

Ok, I'm going to follow you on Twitter, but you'll be glad to know I post once, maybe twice a day.

  6. maw-1. True, but we all think he's a closet Bush... ah hell, they're all comic gold but only to us.
    2. 20 miles (side note, 75% of us live within 250 miles of the border)
    3. I'm drinking some right now.

vm-could you at least start them on lights?

    heather-go back to sleep

deemarie-it does sound dirty. Can I use that line?

sprite-you don't have to have any going to your phone, in fact, you have to choose that. I'm very lonely though and it makes me feel loved.

    ron-your twitter page is awesome.

  7. That post was”brain puke" and I love it. All mushy with small remnants of ideas and thoughts half digested.
Still do not understand what twitter is....

  8. I spent one night with Sarah Palin..wait, no, that's not what I meant to say.

Some people go way overboard with tweeting.

  9. the constant tweeting drives me nuts. when i log in in the morn i can't find anything but ppl talking about debate or other random sh!t. it is so flooded that i have to click the button that says 'older' 2 or 3 times to get back to some reply that i might have missed. on occasion i can find your 'tweet', but sometimes it's hard digging thru the garbage to get to the good stuff (even if you post about nothing) :)

  10. i love twitter. but, truth be told, the having-it-sent-to-a-mobile-device thing seems, just, well, too much for me.

i use it when i'm at the computer. and that's it. i'm sure i miss things that ARE CRUCIAL FOR MY SURVIVAL, though ;)

  11. I respond to tweets but only if they're you, rhea, maw or jenboglass for the most part. Yours are highly entertaining. And, I only tweet on the 'puter.

Oh, and ours aren't monkeys. Ours are jackasses. Maybe that wasn't obvious enough.

  12. Yeah, I don't get the twitter thing either - but I did actually enjoy the post -

  13. I'm so sorry... I was on Twitter last night and was Tweeting about the debate. My first time EVAH tweeting about the debate... and I lost 3 followers. I wasn't even ragging on the candidate I'm not voting for, I was mocking the both of them. I guess people didn't like my comment about John McCain and his "big stick". Geez.

  14. Heh. I'm going to follow you too. I should warn you that I have the King Size episode Homer Simpson drinking bird (HAH! tweet) lined up with my enter key, so I tweet once every five seconds or so. :D

  15. I barely have time for my new thing- blog world. Twitter???

  16. Wait, what was that about again?

    Oh the debate. And Twitter.

You know, we actually have several candidates running for office. Ever heard of Alan Keyes? One of these days he's gonna win this thing.

I wish they would let Nader and some of the other guys participate in the debates. It would be so much more interesting.

I love Twitter but not on my phone. The noise would send me back on Xanax.

  17. yeah, i'm too obsessed with blogging that if I add the twitter to my phone, forget it! I will be over the edge, my children will be neglected, my husband will leave me and my world will crumble aroud me and I wouldn't even know it until I receive a tweet from an attorney telling me I have lost everything including the phone and I need to turn it in.

  18. Gah! I'm lame. Well, my friend. We meet again. For the fifth time today. Even though I'm twenty and most likely twenty-one, we've talked many times today. You better not mock The Palin too hard. If she wins (cough, cough) then she could declare war on your a**. She's a maverick and you can never be sure what she's going to do. Well, except wink at you. You can always count her to wink at you.

This was pure gold, my friend. I love these posts where you have nothing, but manage to always turn it into a belly laugh for me.

Also, my company will be billing you for my lost time of productivity while sneaking off to comment!

  19. As of right now I am a computer only tweeter..until I get my iTouch, then ya'll will never be able to get rid of me bwahahahhahahaha! (as long as I can find some wi-fi to connect to)

  20. Oh Kat, the iTouch! Wow, that sounds SO bad. Whatever. You'll love it.

  22. I don't do Twitter cell phone updates. In my mind there is no 140-character message important enough to interrupt my ever-so important calls to my mom or BFF. I check in when I want to, and if I miss it, it just wasn't meant to be.

I did stay on during the VP debate and myself made some devastatingly brilliant observations. But this last one I actually wanted to watch without notes from the Twitter peanut gallery.

  23. I've had to "unfollow" people on twitter because they just tweet too.damn.much. and I have to go through pages and pages of people responding to other people, about drivel (read things that are completely important to them, but I could not give a shit)just to find a few tweets that are directed to me, so I don't seem like an ungrateful biznitch who ignores my friends on twitter. Whew, that was a long one.
And now I seem like an ungrateful biznitch, don't I? Damn.

Come on, sailor. I love you long time.
