And Then There Was Three

Eight months of pregnancy, five weeks of hospital bed rest, two and half hours in the operating room and four days of recovery and we came home with this:

Even though he's already puked on me and peed on my leg earlier tonight, I think he's worth it.

Sorry it took so long for a photo, or to respond to anybody's comments, but like I said, we were in hospital for four days after delivery so both Supreme Leader and Baby X could recover. Plus we're all on the three hour feeding cycle now so sitting down at the computer just makes me want to lay my head down on the keyboard. I'll fill in the details later.

No, the baby doesn't have a name yet. Well, actually he has two, Aiden and Finn, we just can't decide which one we like most. We had hoped that once he was born we'd just know which one to choose, but that hasn't happened yet. Meh, we've got a month before we have to send in the paperwork.

  3. OMG! I love the look. He's already prepping to deal with 2 older brothers. Congrats to you and SL (hope she's doing well). I love the name Finn!!!!!!!! It's so cool. And really, I can't believe you didn't name him Luke.

  4. Isn't he gorgeous! Many congrats from my side of the pond! I think Finn is a great name, BTW.

  5. Congratulations, he is gorgeous! Both names are cool :)

  6. You could use Both names? :) My parents called me Both of my names until grade 4 when I insisted on going by 1. He can pick out which one works. Congratulations to you and your family. Healing Vibes to the Supreme Leader

  9. Ok, now that you are in this wonderful place, I have one thing to say:

You know how you have two arms and two legs and two eyes? ...but now you have three kids... bwahahahaha get ready for the adventure! It's more like some test that a twisted mind came up with but hey, adventure.. insanity test... all the same in my book.

Welcome to the club, Oh Captain My Captain. I made it this far: my baby #3 is 16. I'm sure you will do fine.

Congrats and best wishes to you and SL.

oh, and if it matters, I vote for Finn. (I know three couples with a newborn named 'Aiden' Great name, just a lot of them.)

  10. Congratulations!! He is beautiful!!!!

  11. Finn and Aiden are both great names, but I vote for X. Right now he's Baby X later he can be Toddler X, Boy X, Teen X and finally The X Man. I love Wolverine!! I digress, anyway congratulations to you and SL.

  12. Finn! That is sooo much better than Baby Dumbass. He is gorgeous. Oh, the little hands just slay me. What must they think of us when they are brand new like that?! is it clear yet that I'm a sucker for babies? All the very best ( and b best I mean sleep whenever possible) to you and the Supreme Leader, and the sibs.

  13. Congrats ALL AROUND! And whatever his name is, he sure is a Keeper!!

  14. Welcome to the bloggy world, Mickey Finn! It won't be long before daddy will have you holding signs.

  15. Nothing quite like the 3 hour feeding schedule. I'm sending you and SL caffeinated vibes to get through this phase.

He's adorable! And if my 2 cents count, go with Finn. Aiden is in the top 20 names this year, I think.

  16. Having the whole crew back together again at home. Yeah! Congrats Captain.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Finn McCool! Just add Tordoff!

A lovely gift, my man. Glad everyone is home safe and dry. Great picture, too.

Don't lay your head on the keyboardddddddddddddddddddddddd*pop* because that happens, and drooling might make the keys sticky.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Awww, he's so cute! I love new babies. They smell good, look cute and have the softest skin.

Enjoy that little sweetie, whatever his name is (I like both!)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Congratulations! There is nothing more beautiful than new life. Glad everyone is doing well - exhausted, but well.

  25. He's perfect. Congratulations. Lucky you, SL and brothers... and lucky Aiden Finn... or Finn Aiden. Don't worry about "responding", just enjoy, rest and eat. I'm cheering for your team!

  26. Aren't Canadian babies allowed two names like their wealthier cousins to the South? If so, I say go for Aiden Finn so his initials won't be FAT. As a man, I understand that the most important thing to consider when naming another male is whether or not it will get him attacked on the playground.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Even though so many babies look deeply disgruntled during their first couple of weeks -- beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  28. FRESH BABY!!!!! I just love fresh babies!

I think you should use both names. Aiden Finn. Or combine them. Finaiden. Faiden. Aifinnden.

LOL! I am cracking my own self up over here...

    CONGRATULATIONS! XOXOXO to the family!

    ReplyDelete
  29. OMG he is absolutely precious! There's something about newborns that make you tear up. Beautiful!
I'd go with Finn, Aiden is very popular these days (nttawwt).

    ReplyDelete
  30. GORGEOUS!! I'd go with Finn, because that was one of my choices but then I had two girls... so if you pick Finn, I can live vicariously though you. (Unless your last name is Ish. Then definitely not Finn.)

    Congrats again. Well done!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Dear Sir, congratuations on your newly obtained infant, made in SL. :D
I hope your wife & the rest of your family recover soon from this exciting yet tiring event. ;)

You could call him Aiden which means fire, since Finn etymologically means fair, bright and/or blonde.

P.S.: Man, he already does an impressive Mr.Spock-I'm-not-amused eyebrow! -_~

  32. Much cuter contents of the tummy Death Star than the actual Death Star.

    He is absolutely perfect!!
    Congrats!

    ReplyDelete
  33. He's the cutest thing I've seen emerge from a death star! Congratulations on the handsome addition to your family.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The peeing and puking is just an initiation, nothing personal :) Congrats on your newest little storm trooper, he's a cutie! I say give him both names .. you can never have enough names, right? =D

    ReplyDelete
  35. Completely beautiful--congratulations!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Congratulations! Keyboards can be quite comfy, kind of like a shiatsu pillow. Go for it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oh my gaaaaaaaaaahd he is GORGEOUS!!!! What a perfect baby. I just want to nibble him, he is so delicious.
Congrats. And great job, SL, great job.

    ReplyDelete
  38. congratulations! he looks adorable...i like both the names so it would be a hard choice...hope mom and baby are both well...dont you love those pee and puke surprises, esp in the wee hour of the morning...

    ReplyDelete
  39. Awwwwwwwwwwwww! Congrats! I'll vote for Aiden, because I want to use Finn at some point in the future :P

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think (apparently as others do) that Aiden Finn has a lovely ring to it. And if you call him Finn now, people will think you are a closet Glee lover.

In other news, he looks disgruntled that his Dad and brothers played Star Wars on his house.

    Just sayin'

    ReplyDelete
  41. Name him Finn Aiden and the kids will be calling him FAT his whole life. But then again, you could name him that and call him Fatordoff, and say it all Celtic-ish and you could probably pass him off as a hobbit or something.

    Congrats.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Congratulations to you and your lovely wife. You have an amazingly beautiful family.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Awww, he's adorable! Congratulations, guys!

If I were you, I'd go with Finn because Aiden is a wickedly popular name these days. Different is good!

    Can't wait for more pics!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Just call him cute baby for the next 4 weeks!

    ReplyDelete
  45. He is precious. Congratulations.

You could try a combo name like Aiefinn or Finden. Finden could totally be the new Brendan... I think I'm onto something.

Whichever you pick - he's just perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  46. and the circle of life continues.

I think you should name him Simba.

    ReplyDelete
  47. he is beeyootiful, and the expression is priceless. I have cousin named Finn, and he likes it. When people say "huh?" he can say "as in HUCK, you dumbass" Congrats to you all!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Well...he's just as gorgeous as the other two...but there's nothing quite so fresh as the skin of a newborn. He looks very alert, no? Perhaps he's thinking about how quickly he can work up a blog post about you.

    ReplyDelete
  49. That is one handsome baby Captain. Congratulations!

I think you should combine both those names into 'Finaiden'.

    He'd be Finaiden the Canadian.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Go for Finn. Aiden means "fiery one" - not sure you need that. He's a cutie, though!

    ReplyDelete
  51. He's so very beautiful. Congratulations!!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh! Congrats all around. So happy for all of you.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Congratulations! He is beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Aiden from Ghost Whisperer and Finn from X-Files. Very nice choices! Glad all is well and the kid is a cutie...good work!

  55. Dear god, he's gorgeous!

As for the name, go with both. As others have already said, Aiden Finn Dumbass has a great ring to it.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I can vouch that he is a beautiful baby. Quiet
and sweet, must take after his Mommy, right!
Hmmmn did you mention the boys are calling him
"Nniff" which, I think,is a step up from "Milk!"

    ReplyDelete
  57. Aw, he's so beautiful!!! Little teary over here, which might be the three glasses of wine I've consumed....but I think mostly it's because he is beyond perfect!

My brother has twin boys - named Aidan and Finn! No joke. So I think either is great! Sending soothing, sleepy thoughts to Baby X...

    ReplyDelete
  58. Congrats....He is stinkin cute.

Glad momma and baby are doing good.

He totally looks like a Finn to me.... just saying.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Congrats to all of you! He's adorable by any name.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Congratulations!! He is BEAUTIFUL!!! He looks like a Finn to me :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. Beautiful kid bro... many congratulations

    ReplyDelete
  62. Congratulations, though I'm thinking your wife pushed him out just so you would stop trying to do creative things with her belly.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I am voting for Finn. I just think it is so cute. Plus, there are gonna be like 5 Aiden's in his class.

    ReplyDelete
  64. What a cutie. Congrats to you and your SL. Good job! Finn is a great name; it's also the name of the Canucks mascot...which could work to his advantage when he bites other kids' heads.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Congratulations and what a lovely baby - brings back memories, my eldest is 28 now - seems like yesterday she was a little mite!!

I host The Sunday Roast and I would be honoured if you appeared on the show. Irish Gumbo has recommended you (he appeared last week).

    Please email me on

  69. Congratulations, captain. He's a great-lookin' little guy. May you all get some rest:)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Adorable! And already he's left you confused. Kids know exactly what they're doing, as I'm sure you know by now. Aaaahhhh, parenthood.

P.S. My son-in-law's name is Finn, and I think it's the cutest name ever.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Awwwww! CONGRATS! He is ADORABLE! Why not give him both names? They're both cool! I read somewhere that if you give your kid at least 4 names (counting their last name) they'll grow up to be really successful. I probably should have given Princess Nagger an extra name if I wanted to really test that theory out. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Congratulations! He is beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Lovely looking wee boy. Take care of him, congrats to all and enjoy all the sleepless nights.

  79. Stopping back by to wish you a very Happy Father's Day! :)

    ReplyDelete
  80. LOL I remember using the 30 day excuse almost 30 years ago.
No matter what you choose its all good -- just take care of that wonderful family and we will be here when you return to "normal" - about 2028 right??

    ReplyDelete

Say hey to mama and thousand of blessed wishes for the new numma wan san...:)))

    ReplyDelete
  96. You have a million comments so this has probably already come up (I'm not going back to check), but you need to name him Finn. There is an Aiden/Cayden/Hayden/Jaden/Brayden epidemic that we should focus on stopping. Unless of course you have already named him Aiden, and then I think it’s a wonderful name that suits him beautifully.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Oh, and either way he is SUPER cute. And I can tell by the picture he smells great.

    ReplyDelete
  98. So what happened, Captain? Got a name for the little bugger yet?

Hope you and SL are doing well, and not too sleep deprived. And that the boys are happy and being helpful with their new lil bro.

    ReplyDelete
  99. You just said like, one of the most PERFECT things at the PERFECT times to me that anyone could have. Damnit. Thank you SO MUCH. I'm putting 'eyes on the prize' in big letters above my mirror.

    ReplyDelete
  101. cannot believe i'm getting here so late.
then again ... you can blame it on my little finn.
5 months later and i'm still behind on things!
oh and did i mention i LOVE the name finn?

  102. Captain, I've been gone too long! He's absolutely beautiful! CONGRATULATIONS! Finn or Aiden? I like them both.
