Once More Unto The Breach...

So, ya. One more Dumbass to unleash upon an unsuspecting world. Sorry about that, but at least I gave you a six month warning. Batten the hatches and brace for impact.

I was going to start this post with an ultrasound picture to my post after covering over some personal info first, but after opening up Adobe Photoshop CS3... LMNOP whatever, I couldn't even figure out how to get the damned picture into it and gave up. My SIL who loaded all this stuff on the computer for me is genius in this area. Me? Not so much. Instead, how about you just imagine a blurry outline of the inside of Supreme Leader's stomach and what could be a baby. Or what could just as easily be her pancreas. Seriously, how do they know what the hell they're looking at? Sure, I get hands when I see them and the creepy see-through skull, but anything else? It's all a blur, and a wiggly blur at that since they keep moving the damn wand thingy all over the place.

The ultrasound we did before Christmas was done at a private fertility clinic. (This part is for our American friends, Canadians can skip) Here in the socialized medical utopia of Canadaland our provincial governments (think state) set specific weeks you can have ultrasounds done at and it's the same for everyone across the board. Because SL is old and decrepit though...um, because my wife and I are in a higher risk age group our doctor advised us we could go through a private clinic and pay for earlier results or wait and worry for a month until our 20 week test. As much fun as worrying about possible fetal complications over the holiday sounded, we decided to fork over the dough.

Happily, everything is where it's supposed to be (or so they say, I mean really, it could have been an octopus), it's all the sizes it's supposed to be and it's heart is doing what it's supposed to do. And damn, that clinic? It was like being on an episode of Private Practice or something. I was expecting them to offer us a pedi or a massage before we left, but I guess the good news was enough.

ETA is the first week of July and this time around we're hoping the pink side of the Force will intervene and bring some balance to the universe. Of course, we'll be just as happy with a boy, but for sanity's sake some dresses and My Little Ponies would be a welcome addition to the house.

  2. Oh Captain, I'm so hoping pink will invade your Star Wars filled home. I can't wait to see what the Storm Troopers think of Barbie. :) Best wish to Supreme Leader on an easy pregnancy.

  4. I can't say it enough Congratulations and I hope that the pink side comes through for you... either that or you decide not to pretend as I have seen what that does to some kids (watch Phineas and Ferb cos it happened to Doofenshmirtz and we all know that he is pure E-vil). Anyway tell me where any of the Dr's as pretty as the ones in PP?!!

  5. This is awesome great news! I love dumbasses! They make me feel not so alone.

  6. Bro, the fam needs a girl to help balance the chi, I'm thinkin' :)

Congrats, and likes me some good news!

  7. Way Cool for both you and the SL.
Always room for another Dumbass in this world. :)

    Congrats again!

  8. I'm glad all is where it should be. Bit worried about this new Dumbass coming into the world though, I may need to dig myself a bomb shelter.

  9. Such lovely news for you guys! The world can never have enough dumbasses.

Oh, a girl. The mere though makes my ovaries flip. I hope you have one too.

  10. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a girl this time but it's going to cost you. Do you know how hard it is to type with crossed fingers?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I predict a girl...you read it here first... a girl and a coupon for a free Whopper! Hey, how did that get in there?!

    ReplyDelete
  12. You really do need a Princess Leia to keep those 2 boys in line.

And be warned... they say if you survive your third child, you can have any number of children. The third one can make you or break you. You've seen my posts about Dani. Good luck!

  13. Congrats! What wonderful holiday news.

  14. Did they write little things on the ultrasound like "Hi Mom!" You know, because a gummi bear size fetus can say those things...

    ReplyDelete
  15. You say you want pink...now. But wait till the Disney Princess crap takes over your house ;)

Either way, good to know the baby has all the things it's supposed to. July is a good month for a baby.

  16. Congratulations and praying for a pink blanket to cover the house.. Although I might wanna warn you after watching my sisters have girls after boys, she may not be that girlish once she gets old enough to make up her mind. It is like having a hormonal boy that look good in pink but can whip your butt in teh blink of an eye then cry over it cause of hormones.. yeahhh kinda freaky and scary lol.

  17. A girl would be wonderful! Sometimes, I find myself daydreaming of having a little girl running around the house. *sigh* Balance sounds nice! Glad to hear that all is well.

  18. How could it *not* be a girl? That stick was so deeply and unequivocally PINK!

  19. Or little ponies in dresses. Either one. Both will be equally as challenging! Girls are fun though! My mother has been begging me to move back in with her for the better part of 10 years. We have great and wonderful powers.

  20. so very cool. i am reminded of the early days as my boys were being born...enjoy the ride!

  21. I get so excited when I hear people might be having a girl. But then I get really pissed off and jealous even though I already have a girl, and really do like my three boys even thought they wear dresses sometimes and flap their gender material around like swords. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

  22. My intuitions tell me the babeh will be a she. You can quote me on that. Until the ultrasound.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Even if the baby is another boy, there's no reason you can't name him Midori and make him wear Asian schoolgirl outfits and have tea parties instead of pretending that every stick he picks up is a machine gun.

    ReplyDelete
  24. so awesome.................congrats again;)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thank you for explaining the alien ways of Canadaland. I'm hoping you get a girl and at the same time that's kind of mean of me because I know the hell they can unleash.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Do you think you'll have a girl or a boy?

    ReplyDelete
  27. That is awesome and thanks for explaining the Canadian medical system. All I've heard is that it is wonderful and everybody should do it that way. Being an ignorant American, I have no idea!

So while you were getting your pedi, you didn't ask if they could see the sex of the octopus?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yay! Go girl power!

On the other hand...PMS and teenage angst over boyfriends. Um, boys are good too.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I agree with the girl thing. Y'all have enough boys there. The supreme being needs a new one to train. Some one to keep you in line in your old age...ok older age.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Girls like lightsabers too (at least mine does!), so I'll keep fingers crossed on that one as well.

Either way, another Dumbass is just what this universe needs!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Little girls really do rock! Although with boys you only have one weiner to worry about....with girls...you gotta worry about them all!

Congrats on the good news. It's always a relief to know that their little parts are where they should be.

    ReplyDelete
  32. what i thought was my baby was actually the placenta. with my 2nd son, i had the ultrasound and then my dr wanted me to have the 4d sonogram towards the end of my 2nd tri. it was vera cooooool. we could tell instantly that it was another boy. he was staring at us while sucking his thumb.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Great news! Glad to hear everything is well and not an octopus.

    ReplyDelete
  34. This is such great news! Glad to hear more about it. (I even shared with my husband who knows you from your blog comments on C&H... and recently asked about you out of the blue! Having a cool blog handle certainly helps!)
My fingers are crossed for a little girl.

  35. Parisbug has a little sumpn' for you and the SL!! I might have posted a photo of it on your FB page, then again, maybe I'm just being French & cruel! mwah hahahahaha. See ya on the FB side :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Congratulations and I hope it's pink. When I found out I was pregnant but before the US I had dreams that I was having a puppy, a pink puppy, so I knew it was a girl. I was right. What are the odds? Congrats again and thanks for the warning.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I would have popped for the payed ultra-sound too. You two are SMART! Awesome news that the lucky noodle is healthy. Give my best to your wife... be nice to her. Pink would be neat, but I hear you on the "happy for a boy" thing too. Congrats again!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Who's to say you can't get the boys dresses and My Little Ponies now?

Yay for a July baby. It'll be hot as balls here so I'll bring my kids up for a visit, ok?

    ReplyDelete
  39. What's one more dumbass in the world, more or less? At least this one will come in July and SL will miss the hot summer months (those sucked...)

I'd offer to send you some pink vibes, but we have none down here. And if we do, I'm hoarding them for the next potential badger.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I worked for an OB/GYN for two years and still didn't understand how they read the ultrasounds! I am so freaking happy for you guys. And I also hope some pink is welcomed into the house to balance things out. God knows SL needs some help with that! I may have to send you a baby present...

    ReplyDelete
  41. Tell Supreme Leader to shoot for the 4th of July. That way you can celebrate with us folks south of the border every year. Congrats again.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ya'll are the best Dumbasses out there. We definitely could use another one of ya.

    ReplyDelete
  43. when my doctor told me we were having twins, I wondered where she saw that. This could have been a cat's U/S for all I knew!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Congrats Dumbass.

Looks like everything (bait & tackle wise)still works.

    Good for you.

    ReplyDelete
  45. pink is not a dumbass color
i just thought you might want to know that

    ReplyDelete
  46. Glad everything is where it was supposed to be. Congrats to you and your family! Here's hoping for pink and My Little Ponies. The world is a better place because of Captain Dumbass and family! As WeaselMomma said, it makes me feel just a little less lonely.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I would like to read you write about Pink.

    Congrats again!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Awesome!

I want want one. I am curious about the cost of a private clinic. I'm also in a higher risk group, agewise. Also, I won't have health care for at least months AFTER I am able to apply. God only knows when that will be. I don't want to pay for everything out of pocket. But I would not mind initial appointments and perhaps some fertility analysis type of appointment.

    ReplyDelete
  49. congrats! It's the toughest job you'll ever love.

and yes, I stole that from the Marines. The sentiment is still the same.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Congratulations Captain! Am crossing my fingers the Pink Force will be with you... and Supreme Leader.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yay!! I can't wait until July! I want a baby now! Wait, did I just say that??

    ReplyDelete
  52. Little girls are mad as snakes mate, seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Sending you loooooads of pink JuJu.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Really you had to wait for an early u/s, here on my end they stamp "advance maternal age" or "genetically predisposed to twins" or "previous preemies" and I can get in no problem. I haven't actually tried that Advance maternal age trick.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Wow - I certainly missed a lot over the last week or two! Congratutlations! Pink or blue - a third baby will be a wonderful addition to the family. Your boys are at just the right age to appreciate a new sibling (i.e. help mommy by running to get diapers and locating lost pacifiers). I will admit that having one girl in the group has been nice and brought some balance to our "boy" house. But the My Little Pony madness makes a very strong case for all testosterone all the time...

    ReplyDelete
  56. Glad all the parts are doing what parts are supposed to do. Have you seen those 3d ultrasounds? They creep me out.
If it turns out to be a boy, I'll mail you some my little ponies. The girl will never miss them, and if she does I'll never confess.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Huh...glad the lil' kidney bean is progressing as she (hopefully, though I know you'll be thrilled with either) should be.

    And again...Congrats!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Oh nooooo.....this is all a big roux....even if it's a boy you're gonna dress him up in Little Pony stuff and pretend it's a girl, right? Venting your girly desires....oh my god....this is gonna be a big year....

    ReplyDelete

Come on, sailor. I love you long time.
