Jane Austen: With Blood On My Hands And Love In My Heart

Today I am doing a book review of Pride & Prejudice & Zombies with Middle Aged Woman over on He Read/She Read, and while "review" might be a liberal use of the word (if by "liberal" you mean using an entirely inappropriate word to describe an action for which that word bares very little resemblance) I think this is something that I could definitely see myself doing professionally, so if you happen to work for a large newspaper and/or some other type of large and/or prestigious book reviewing institution and you happened by here accidentally consider it my resume.

Do you need a little breather?

Good?

Ok.

So, click on this funny blue... er, red (it's blue in the draft, huh?) coloured text here because it will magically take you to another website where I'll be since I'm not really here and it won't hurt a bit I promise. Hell, I even translated Russian, American and ancient Greek. Not that I'm bragging. Go! GO!

PS. As an added bonus, Middle Aged Woman is giving away a signed copy of the book over on her sight, Unmitigated. Signed by the two of us. That's right, just think of the future value of that.

  1. For a moment there I considered buying a major newspaper and then employing you.

  2. Couldn't find the review. Probably my fault.

  5. I think you can tell from the comment I left on the hesaid-shesaid blog that I prefer your take on the book. Very creative Captain, very creative! I'd hire you but sadly, I sold my magazine a long time ago.

  6. Translating the American was the real challenge.

  7. Don't want to be blasphemous but ever thought of rewriting the Bible? Zombies, aliens, Witches and drag racing should liven it up?

  10. I'm with Mo. . .

If I owned a major book-reviewing institution, you would be my first employee.

But why did unmitigated have the better photo?

No zombie grilled cheese for you ????

  11. Thanks for playing today, Cap'n. It was a triumph of the highest order - and I appreciate your support. With any luck, you and the MAW can parlay this into a full-time gig...with benefits!
[No - not those kind of benefits. I'll cripple ya!]

I read stacyjwarner's comment to say she likes being train-spotted, which would be very different.

  14. This is the second time in 2 days this book has come up. I was at the bar last night (big surprise) watching the game, and started talking about Wuthering Heights' Heathcliff (as one does) and the young woman I was talking to -- who likes to read -- said, "Oh, I've never read any of those classics. Pride & Prejudice, Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights. I was never interested."

I shrilly defended them, cried out how good they are, etc. etc. Made me look like a wacko snob, instead of making her look ignorant and clueless.

    Sigh.

    The End.

  16. I read the reviews, but I couldn't comment there b/c I'm still really scared of zombies after that effin movie where they were all freaky fast and eatey. WTF was that?!?!!

  17. I can't wait to read the book! I love me some zombies ;) Have you read the Zombie Haiku book? It's great!

  18. I'm intrigues by the Zombie version, but I'd feel like I should read the original version first. I've tried twice.

I really dunwanna. Characters so fragile they nearly die from being rained on? Better off being zombies, really.

In other news, hey there howdy neighbour!
