A Blissful Benefit

*This post is way late because Blogger disappeared last night around 11:30 as I was finishing it. If Google truly expects to take over the world they really need to get their shit together.

I love coffee. Americano, caramel macchiatto or just a regular home brew out of my coffee maker. Love it, need it. Need it like a smack head needs his fix. Along with my morning shower, it starts my day. If I woke up tomorrow to the media screaming for me to head for the hills because the N1H1 vaccine had just started the zombie plague I'd still wait until I'd finished my shower and a cup of coffee. Ok, maybe I'd get the coffee to go. If I don't get that first cup of the day? Remember that fire demon from Lord of the Rings, the one that sends all the orcs and goblins running and drags Gandalf down through the pits of Khazad-dûm? Ya. Kinda' like that.

Jenni from Oscarelli, with a little help from Jen of Sprite's Keeper, put together a "Blissful Benefit" for Jen over at Blissfully Caffeinated who recently gave birth to little baby Half-Caff, and no, I'm not going to do any jokes about "Jen's" covering the blogosphere like a plague of locusts. Jen wound up with pneumonia a week before giving birth and ended up in the ICU on a ventilator. Don't worry, mom and baby are good. Anyway, Jenni (Oscarelli, keep up) wanted to do something for Jen to let her know we were thinking of her and suggested that anyone who wanted to join in could write a little something about coffee and link up on her (Jenni) blog. So,

I love my coffee bitter and hot, just like Jen.*

Congratulations, Jen and family. Hope you're feeling better.

*Actually I really hate bitter coffee but lots of sugar and cream didn't have the same punch.

  2. I feel the same way. I really am not an all day coffee drinker, but i HAVE to have it, every morning. I'll let you in on a little secret, though, **I'm too good for Folgers** It's gotta be beans from my favorite local roaster, ground up fresh.

  3. I used to say I liked my coffee like my men: hot and black. Then I married a red headed Irishman and that joke just made me look slutty.

  4. coffee is necture of the gods in my opinion.
have my big cup going right now.
immune to the wake factor of it now though.
can drink a cuppa and go right off to beddy bye.
does that say i am a caffine junkie?

  5. Except for the occasional latte, The Maven's a big Earl Grey tea drinker.

Glad to hear Blissful and Half Caff are doing well.

  6. captain, the instant variety was invented specifically for emergencies such as H1N1.

  7. I drank so much coffee in high school hanging out at the local "Friendly's" restaurant that it kind of lost it's appeal to me. Unless it's drenched with chocolate syrup and whip cream - or Frangelico - I'm not interested.

Still, good cause and all! Congrats to Jen!

  10. That IS a lot of 'Jen' derivatives, isn't it? Maybe we should start a series of collectors cards.

  11. I would do one those I 'heart' coffee comments, but that would be sorta sissy for a dude wouldn't it.

Instead, I'll just say. Coffee is the wind beneath my wings...

  12. Ah well, I feel a wee bit out of place here now. I don't drink coffee at all.

(holds up hand) wait wait ... don't hit me with that big red spongy psycho-babble office bat just yet.

I have an espresso maker, I like a good one on a cold winters day. It's like heaven.

Mostly though. I drink tea, iced. I do have myself a nice cup of Earl Grey to warm me up if it's a cold morning though.

  15. Aww...thanks? No seriously, thanks. Sadly, I'm not even drinking coffee right now. No appetite for anything, not even the beans. It sucks. Also, the whole ventilator / chest tube / emergency C section experience has effing ruined Grey's Anatomy for me. I'm so pissed. Actually it started the week before my C section when the resident cut off the baby's arm in the womb. Yeah. That's what I needed to see just then. And now it gives me these horrible PTSD-ish flashbacks. Dammit.

Anyway, I miss ya Captain. Thanks for the post! xo

  17. Aww, mannnnn....I stopped drinking coffee years ago on the advice of my doctor...and because it was contributing to the ruin of my stomach.

Crap. Now. I. Want. Coffee. Thick. Black. Two Raw Sugars.

    helppp meeeee....

And very, VERY pleased to hear that the Moms and the Behbeh are doing well. Whew. Good on them!

  18. Coffee is a must! If I did not have coffee in the morning, most of my posts would be titled "I hate everyone" LOL!

  19. I cant say I need coffee like you but I do enjoy tea. Ya know?? Well maybe not.

However, on the H1N1 vaccine... GET IT if you can. The risk of being turned into a zombie is better than getting H1N1. I know from personal experience.

  20. I think coffee and parenting go together like peanut butter and jelly. And I like mine with lots of milk and sugar, too. :)

    Congrats to the little haff-caff!

  22. Ahhh coffee!! Its the one thing that could potentially unite the rift (I've caused) between the US and Canada.

Let's be honest here, I will drink my coffee however anyone gives it to me if it is morning. And I like it to be served in 32 oz mugs....the way God intended.

  23. Gotta have my coffee in the morning. Can't seem to jump-start the brain before then. ;)

Is it scary that I actually followed your Jen references without getting lost? :)
